Foundations and values of the MigratieMuseumMigration

1. The museum MMM explicitly chooses to highlight the diversity of migrations to and residents of Brussels, and to let this superdiversity take precedence over numbers.

2. The museum MMM explicitly chooses to build its collection from the bottom up, beginning with the Brusselaars themselves, the inhabitants.

3. The museum MMM explicitly chooses to be accessible to people who are not used to visiting museums. Being accessible is more important than being majestic and impressive.

4. The museum MMM explicitly chooses to consider not just the cognitive but also, at least equally, the empathetic.

5. The museum MMM wants to be a museum where every Brusselaar feels at home.

6. The museum MMM wants to be constantly ‘in progress’, meaning it will regularly integrate input from first-line contacts, including visitors, in its collections, and will constantly be attentive to this.

7. The museum MMM wants to make special efforts to provide an additional offer for young people, children and families, as well as for people with disabilites.

8. The museum MMM explicitly wishes to be actively and positively pluralistic and independent of party-political profiling.

9. The museum MMM wants to have an international input and image. The European dimension should be explicitly present.

10. Visitors to the museum MMM should feel like they are visiting ‘Brussels in a nutshell’, the way Brussels looks now, with a simultaneous historical perspective and with attention to the fact that every Brusselaar has a personal story.
